Glasgow is one of the United Kingdom’s main economic centers outside of London, when you visit make sure to consider our Glasgow car hire services. A one-time powerhouse of the industrial Britain, Glasgow has transformed itself into a hub of culture, commerce, tourism and much more.
The city is served by two main airports, Glasgow Airport and Glasgow Prestwick Airport, the first one being located fourteen kilometers away from the city’s center while Prestwick is located about fifty kilometers away. Both of them are connected to the city via either bus routes or trains but by far the best option for getting into the city from the airport would be to hire a car from our Glasgow offices and have the car ready for you at the airport.
As far as navigating the city via car goes, the central area is pretty compact and you can go around the various locations on foot, however the Greater Glasgow area is about eighty square miles so the option to hire a car while in Glasgow should be strongly considered.
The center of Glasgow features a great mix of Victorian and Edwardian buildings that come with all their specific lavish interiors and wonderfully carved stonework. There are a few specific buildings that you should visit while in Glasgow such as The Clyde Auditorium, a concert hall which contrary to popular belief was not inspired by the Sydney Opera House, instead it is meant to represent a ship’s hulls. Another place to see would be the City Chambers, built in 1888 in the style of the Italian Renaissance, with daily tours available to visitors.
Glasgow also has a great series of museums and galleries such as the Burrel Collection, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Glasgow Science Centre. Of course these are only a small example of all the museums and galleries that the city has to offer, in fact only the city council runs thirteen such institutions in their administration, so there is a lot of choice. On the other hand getting to all of these places, or even to some of them will be made so much easier if you hire a car during your Glasgow trip.
