Peugeot 208 Hybrid FE
The Peugeot 208 Hybrid FE will be joining a full stand from the French manufacturer during the Geneva motor show that starts in March.
This ultra-efficient model is the result of a joint development between Peugeot and oil and gas giant Total – for some odd reason the FE stand for Fun and Efficient – boasts the ability of mixing performance and efficiency being able to go from zero to 100km/h in 8 seconds flat and average CO2 emissions of 49 grams per kilometer, numbers which translate to consuming somewhere around 2.1 litres of fuel per 100km.
The 208 Hybrid FE is built around the 50kW 1.0-litre VTi three-cylinder petrol-powered Peugeot 208 that was launched in April of last year, however several upgrades and enhancements have been made to that model’s drivetrain, aerodynamics and body in order to better the base car’s 14-second 0-100km/h time and 99 g/km CO2 rating.
The vehicle features an electric motor and battery that were taken directly from the French company’s endurance racing program, which are linked to Peugeot’s Gearbox Control automatic transmission. At the same time the three-cylinder engine also got a new thermo-management and combustion cycle, reduced friction and reduced weight with lighter reciprocating gears and cylinder head.
Further work on the body resulted in cutting about two hundred kilograms of weights, and this is quite a saving on its own, but even more so when you consider that the standard 208 was already up to 173 kg lighter than the previous 207. This is thanks to the use of composite materials and polycarbonates for the body panels, windows as well as in the passenger compartment.
Other Peugeot models expected to make an appearance at the Geneva Motor Show are the new Peugeot 2008 crossover – a hybrid version of the 2008 which will feature the Hybrid Air compressed air technology – the Peugeot Onyx, the supercar concept that was first seen last year at the Paris Motor Show and the Peugeot 208 GTi.
