Useful advice on how to protect your car during winter
With its white magic, but also with its snow, its cold and its blizzards, winter is here. Beautiful as the frozen landscape might be, winter is not the best time for your car. Today, we would like to give you some useful advice on how to protect your car during winter.
The first stop we make is at the very core of the car: its engine. During winter, the low temperatures, going below freezing point, subject the battery to considerably more stress. To start the engine, you need 2 or 3 times more power than in summer. The easiest measure is to use quality motor oil. Also check your antifreeze: the coolant is vital!
You need to check the electric wiring and the heating system as well, to make every drive safe and comfortable. Pay particular attention to the charging system and the battery. As for the heating system, make sure is has no leaks and that the window defroster is working.
Preparing your car to the realities of the region you live in is a truly important aspect. Winter tires and a garage are the first things that come to mind. You need a tyre dressing with high UV protection system.
Your wipers and windshield (as well as the other windows) must equally be checked, preferably before the first snow proves to you that there is in fact something wrong.
How about the interior of the car? It is equally important. The cold and dryness outside threatens to evaporate all the moisture from the vinyl or leather, ruining your seats. To avoid this, you can apply special conditioners.
Finally, salt, the friend of people during winter and the ultimate anti-ice, is your car’s greatest enemy. At least from the… aesthetic point of view, as the car will be a mess after the mixture of snow and mud and salt go dry. The ultimate advice is: wash your car as often as possible, either at a car-wash or at home.
