2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Vehicle

The electric-vehicle market is in constantly shifting and evolving, and that’s a great thing because it’s not showing any sign of stagnation, quite the contrary.
With an increasing number of automakers building, researching or looking into building electric vehicles, this is all-around good news for the market at large, even though consumer interest isn’t yet matching this push.
The problem stems from the fact that the cost of Electric Vehicles is still rather high, well out of the reach of the majority of consumers, not to mention the fact that there are problems with fire management as well as the lack of infrastructure to support EVs.
As far as the American market goes, it now has about ten electric vehicles, ranging from the well-known Prius to the new Ford Focus Electric, and as we’ve reported on earlier, there are some plans to start setting up some form of infrastructure for EV users.
Now this status quo might be changed when the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive will be introduced as a cheaper alternative to current electric vehicles, and a great option from the most eco-conscious of drivers.
The 2013 Smart Electric Drive is powered by a 17.8 kilowatt-hour engine capable of outputting 74 hp and 96 lb-ft of torque, quite enough to allow the tiny vehicle to zip through traffic.
The ride is quite sporty but not as smooth as one might expect, especially when driving on uneven streets and over potholes.
This lack of ‘luxury’ might come into play when it comes to the final price of the vehicle, especially when you consider that the interior is extremely basic as well, with semi-soft fabric pasted atop hard plastics, but this is also part of the Smart policy of streamlining and de-cluttering the driving experience.
This car won’t be breaking any land-speed records but for those who tend to be exclusively city-dwellers, who also happen to have a place where they can plug in their EV, then this might just be a viable option.
