Aruba – Your future travel destination

The Netherlands Antilles islands have been dismissed by the Europeans ever since they were discovered by the Spanish in the 16th century. They called them ‘Islas Inutiles’ back then, meaning useless islands referring to their lack of silver or gold.

The Netherlands Antilles are made up of three islands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao – sometimes referred to as the ABC islands – and they are quite different from the rest of their Caribbean sisters, which might be the reason why they are still relatively shunned by some European visitors. The arid and heavily cactus-populated landscape contrasts rather strikingly with the tropical lushness of the rest of the region. Another characteristic that sets these islands apart from the others in the Caribbean is that they are located outside the hurricane belt which makes them a safe travel destination regardless of season.

The island of Aruba is located at about fifteen miles off the coast of Venezuela and is about twenty miles long by, it’s the right size for exploring. The capital or Oranjestad, is a rather busy cruise port featuring high-end casinos, hotels and a plethora of shopping malls for its size.

Due to its location, Aruba offers two different types of seaside experiences, with one side of the island being bathed in the warm and tranquil Caribbean Sea while the other side’s coastline meets with the Atlantic’s crashing waves with rocks, coral ridges and cliffs.

The island itself is worth further exploration than just the beach or resort that you’ll be staying at, for instance there a small natural pool of water which is only accessible via a 4×4 vehicle, which is hidden in a natural rock formation, a truly unique place to take a dip indeed.

Those who are snorkeling enthusiasts will have a lot of things to do in Aruba, especially the Boca Catalina and the Antilla Shipwreck. Now keep in mind that these are just two of the many more snorkel spots in Aruba.

One major sight that you will not want to miss is the Arikok National Park, the entire place is made up of lava formations, a quartz diorite formation and a limestone one which extends inward from the coastline.

These are just a few examples of what you can see and do while in Aruba, and keep in mind the island is pretty decent in size so a rental car might not prove to be such a bad idea if you want to get more out of your trip.
