BMW reveal Vision Future Luxury concept

The new BMW Vision Future Luxury concept limo has been revealed at the 2014 Beijing auto show and is said to be the sign of things to come in the realm of the perception of modern luxury vehicles form the German carmaker. A production version is expected to launch sometime around 2017 under the 9 Series badge.

The concept features a very striking front-end design boasting slim-line Laserlight headlights as well as the largest kidney grille to ever be featured on a BMW’s nose. Alongside the sleek roofline, long wheelbase, large wheels and stumpy rear end with OLED tail-lights add to the specific and substantive look of the concept.

The concept has coach-style doors, but unlike some vehicles that have done away with the conventional full-scale B-pillar altogether, the Bavarian carmaker has moulded carbon into the seat frames in order to cocoon the rear passengers while at the same time increasing the torsional strength.

According to Adrian van Hooydonk – senior vice president of BMW Group design – said that the concept is meant as an exploration of future design themes for the marque.

The interior features a ‘radically new’ user interface design and multi-layer interior finishing. This means that the top layer is wood, followed by leather, then a plethora of functional user interface elements, then structural aluminium and at the base there’s the carbon fabric layer.

The rear of the concept has a pair of tablet-style devices integrated into the cross-member as well as a third tablet between the two rear seats. This will allow the passengers to see the speed they’re traveling at, as well as other trip information or simply surf the internet.

A wraparound, minimalist dash featuring three display screens spanning two-thirds of the width of the car will make it hard to tell where the monitors end and the structure begins.

There’s no real word on a production version of the concept however, rumors say that the brand is looking to add an even more luxury- and style-focused model above the 7 Series.
