Convertibles in the UK
The general image of a convertible owner in the public’s perspective is usually of someone who is looking to look cool, the wind running through their hair, that type of thing. However a recent survey of convertible car owners in the UK has revealed that about two thirds of them rarely or never actually drop their roof.
Audi conducted this survey in August and it showed that sixty-four percent of British convertible owners prefer to keep their tops up, and this is quite interesting because Britain turns out to be one of the largest markets for convertible cars on the globe.
It is interesting to note however that the reasoning behind the popularity of convertible cars isn’t the whole wind-in-the-hair aspect, instead they prefer the exotic looks of convertibles, forty-six percent of them cited the looks as being the main driving force behind their purchase.
When it comes to gender differences, it appears that female owners are much more likely to run with their car open, in fact thirty-nine percent of women owners compared to thirty-two percent of male owners. And similarly, seventeen percent of women said they never open their roof at all, compared to twenty-seven percent of men who responded the same way; maybe it has to do with the fact that the ladies are much more inclined to let their hair grow, who knows.
When it comes to age intervals, the survey data has shown that those between twenty-five and thirty-four are most likely to drive with their roof down.
Now all of these upper facts considered, one has to keep in mind that England isn’t well known for its sunny days, so that is surely an important influencing factor on these percentages, but maybe they just want to have a convertible in order to enjoy those few sunny days that they do get.
