Fiat 500 1957 edition revealed

fiat-500-1957

Interesting how the US is the first to see the reveal of the Fiat 500 1957 Edition ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles auto show, interesting seeing as how the Fiat has historically been a very European-centric marque.

Based around the 2014 Fiat 500 Lounge model, this new 500 1957 is meant to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the Italian brand’s original 1957 Nuova Cinquecento and the new one features very vintage styling cues both inside and out.

The model is finished in a choice of three very classic exterior colors – Bianco (white), Verde Chiaro (light green), or Celeste (celestial blue) – this anniversary edition comes with a white-painted roof and mirror caps as well as throwback Fiat badging.

The theme continues with exclusive retro-style 16-inch wheels with a chrome lip, body-colored accent and large Fiat-stamped centre caps. Inside the vehicle there’s a combination of ivory and brown which join a grey dash and door panels as well as a retro-badged leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Owners of the new model will also be receiving a unique key fob with a brown casing and ivory-painted ‘1957’ graphic in order to further drive home the Nuova Cinquecento theme.

The model will be powered from Fiat’s 75kW/133Nm 1.4-litre four-cylinder Multi Air engine connected to the standard five-speed manual transmission. There will be an optional six-speed automatic transmission also made available, but both these options will come with a ‘Sport’ mode which will change the throttle maps and, in the auto, shifts points. The sport-tuned suspension completes the Fiat vintage package.

The Fiat 500 1957 Edition is set for an unspecified limited production run and will go on sale in the US from March with pricing details being announced closer to its launch.

According to the company, exactly 3,893,294 Nuova Cinquecentos were built between 1957 and 1975.
