Hyundai ix35 reach Copenhagen
We reported a while back about the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell and how a bunch of them are going to be delivered to the City of Copenhagen in Denmark. Well it appears that the first assembly line-produced Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell vehicles have just reached the Nordic country.
These zero-emissions SUVs are the first hydrogen-powered vehicles manufactured on a production line to be introduced anywhere in Europe, a true first.
The fifteen Hyundai ix35 Fuell Cell cars were handed over by representatives of Hyundai Motor Europe during the opening of Denmark’s first hydrogen refueling station.
The Hyundai ix35s will be joining the capital’s municipal fleet as part of the city’s goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2025.
Byung Kwon Rhim – Hyundai Motor Europe president – said during the event that the ix35 Fuel Cell vehicle is clear evidence of the South Korean manufacturer’s commitment to hydrogen fuel for the future of Europe. And the not-so-simple fact of delivering assembly-line produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles should make it clear that Hyundai has a realistic solution to Europe’s sustainable mobility needs.
The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell is powered by a 100kW electric motor and is capable of accelerating from zero to 100km/h in 12.5 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h, everyone involved can say that those numbers are really not bad.
The vehicle features two hydrogen tanks totaling a capacity of 5.64 kilograms which are positioned between the car’s rear axle thus allowing the ix35 Fuel Cell to travel up to 594 kilometers before needing to refuel; refueling will only take a couple of minutes, just as it would a traditional petrol tank.
This delivery of the first line-produced fuel cell vehicles has represented the pinnacle of Hyundai’s work on hydrogen technology, an undertaking that was started back in 1998.
According to the South Korean manufacturer it will produce a thousand ix35 Fuel Cell vehicles at its Ulsan factory by 2015.
