Larnaca travel and tips
Larnaca is a great holiday destination and it appeals to a wide range of travelers thanks to its plethora of attractive features, main of which is the wonderful Cypriot coast. However beaches are not the only thing that makes Larnaca a great place to visit during your holiday, so let’s talk a bit about some of the other sights and attractions that one can find in and around the town. But before we get into that we should note that once you land here you can employ some Larnaca airport taxi services to take you from the airport to your accommodations.
The Church of Agios Lazaros isn’t just a beautiful religious building, but it also has a very interesting history behind its construction. According to tradition the church was built on the grave of Lazarus, the resurrected Lazarus from the Bible. His relics aren’t still anymore, having been moved first to Constantinople in 890 and then to Marseille in 1204.
The building’s architecture is a mix of Latinate and Orthodox styles as clearly evidenced by the very prominent bell tower. The upper mentioned Tomb of Lazarus, sans Lazarus, is located under the altar and is accessible by stairs but you won’t see several sarcophagi in the catacomb.
The courtyard of the church also features a great sight, the Byzantine Museum which even though it doesn’t have as wonderful a collection as it did before the Turkish administration of the 1970s, it still has a very extensive and impressive display of Byzantine-era ecclesiastical artifacts and whatnot.
These have been only a few of the sights and attractions that the town has to offer, rest assured that by employing our Larnaca car hire services you’ll surely be able to zip around the place and see as much of it as you want.
