Maui

Maui, A beach

Hawaii may be the name of the state, and that of an island, but the actual state is made up of more than just one island. The state of Hawaii is made up of eight major islands, Maui being the second largest of the bunch.

Maui is also known as the Valley Isle, and while it is nothing more than a simple small dot of land in the immense blue expanse of the Pacific Ocean, it does have a lot of experiences to offer its visitors, from hiking to the top of a ten thousand foot volcano to watch the sunrise, to diving into clear waters populated by rainbow colored fish, and everything in between. All the things that one think about when thinking ‘Hawaii’ will be found on the island of Maui.

Hana

The small and peaceful town of Hana is considered by many to be one of the last completely unspoiled Hawaiian frontiers. One reason for this is the fact that the small town is located at the end of a fifty-two mile drive from Kahului. While that may not pose a problem normally, especially if you’re in a car, the drive will actually take anywhere from two to four hours to complete because it features narrow one-lane bridges and hairpin turns all of which surrounded by a wonderful island scenic view. The town is almost worth a visit just to go through the 620 curves and 59 bridges, all of which are lined by rainforests, waterfalls, pools and just dramatic scenery in general.

The town itself will welcome you with the sight of the historic St. Sophia’s Church, and even though we mentioned earlier that it is unspoiled, and it is, this doesn’t mean that you won’t find great accommodation options, take for instance the historic Travaasa Hana which is a luxurious retreat which is deeply rooted in local tradition. You can browse the General Store and the Hana Ranch Store for unique souvenirs, all of these still maintaining the backdrop of particular island activities such as sunbathing, snorkeling and the like.

Kaanapali Beach

The beach on the western shore of Maui is considered by many to be one of America’s best beaches, in fact it was once named so. What used to be a royal retreat has transformed into a popular getaway for travelers from all over the globe.

Kaanapali was the first planned resort in Hawaii, and this means that there most major accommodation facilities were designed and located in such a way to face this three mile stretch of white sand. Alongside the condominium villages and hotels you have access to a world-class shopping complex as well as an open air Whalers village; there are also two championship golf courses which will thrill golfers on vacation.

These are only two examples of what you can visit while on the island of Maui, boredom won’t even cross your mind.
