New Mercedes S-Class
Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled their first S-Class in eight years in Germany.
Some of the styling highlights cited by Mercedes-Benz in regards to their sixth-generation S-Class is a larger and more upright grille, a character line descends from front to rear and convex-concave surfacing on the flanks. It has a pronounced shoulder above the rear wheel, the tail-lights are encased into the car’s body and the rear windscreen cuts into the C-pillar with a rounded upper area of the glass giving it a coupe-like character.
This Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the first car on the planet that will not include a single lightbulb, featuring 500 LEDs split between the headlights, tail-lights and the interior.
The body scores a benchmark 0.24 aerodynamic Cd rating with the future S300 BlueTec Hybrid model claiming a 0.23Cd.
The interior focuses on horizontal elements and lines meant to create a uniquely fluid and elegant style which aims to create the look of an exclusive interior cast from a single mould.
The interior has leather trimmings, metalized switch surfaces and a pearl-effect and woodgrain finishes blend with the main controls made of solid aluminium.
The back of the front seats feature two 12.3-inch high-res TFT screens which will show the infotainment technology controlled by a touch-sensitive telephone keypad alongside a rotary control button. A new feature – the Speech Dialog system – is capable of handling entire sat-nav addresses being read out and it can also read out texts or emails to the driver.
The entire body is 50 percent stiffer than the last model, and it features extra legroom in the back. Despite it being a slightly larger model, by using a lot more aluminium the new S-Class weighs less than the old one as well.
The model will also come with a plethora of safety features and other equipment as standard.
The new S-Class will be arriving in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2013.
