Peugeot Onyx Concept Scooter

Peugeot Onyx Concept Scooter

Considering that the 2012 Paris Motors show is going to start this week, we’re going back to talk a bit about Peugeot and their Onyx Concept. Not their car Onyx Concept, but their Scooter Onyx Concept, a hybrid three-wheeler.

Some details about the hybrid scooter were leaked and reveal that the three-wheeler closely mirrors the design of the Onyx Concept car, in that it features copper plating and a matt black colour scheme.

The Onyx Scooter is driven only by its 17-inch rear wheel which is powered by a plug-in hybrid setup combining a 400cc internal combustion engine with an electric motor in order to deliver a total of 45kW of power and 58 Nm of torque.

The setup will allow for the scooter to reach a top speed of 150km/h with a consumption of 2.0 litres per 100km. the vehicle’s range will vary from just thirty kilometers in EV mode – at a speed of 50 km/h – to 500km when it runs in hybrid mode.

The thing is that its great fuel efficiency and dark design are not the only things that the Onyx Scooter brings to the table, it also comes with a removable storage ‘ClipBox’ located between the handlebars and the seat which allows for two configurations: Sport and Urban.

In the Sport configuration, the ‘ClipBox’ is attached so that the rider can lean forward in a very sportsbike-like position, meant to reduce air friction, while in the ‘Urban’ configuration the ‘ClipBox’ is removed in order to promote a more traditional upright scooter position.

We don’t know if there are any real plans of ever producing this particular concept vehicle, however it should generate some attention at Paris thanks to its more attention-grabbing namesake.
