Porsche 911 50 Years edition

One may not have thought it possible back in 1963 that a particular Porsche model that came out that year will be celebrating this year its 50th year of existence. That model is of course the Porsche 911, a car series that has become a legend in the sports car segment.

The world has changed since then, and the 911 has followed suit as well, but there have always been two basic elements that have defined each and every generation of the series for its entire life-span:  the particular design and overall shape of the car, and the mounting of a flat-six engine behind the rear axle – this last features has its roots in the original VW Beetle.

To celebrate the model’s Golden Jubilee, the designers over at Porsche have created a special commemorative edition of the 911 Carrera S, which will be produced in a limited number of 1,963 examples, quite an appropriate number indeed.

The relation to the original model doesn’t end there as the commemorative model will be premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Septere – which is the same venue that hosted the debut of the original in 1963.

The special anniversary 911 is based on the regular, rear-wheel drive Carrera S with its 395hp 3.8-liter flat-six engine, however it features a 44mm wider rear body of the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 models. The model will come with two unique colors, a darker Graphite Grey and a lither Geyser Grey metallic, as well as a regular black shade. Other special external features of the special edition include the ‘911 50’ badge finished in two-tone 3D-style on the rear lid, high-gloss window frames, SportDesign exterior mirrors and ‘Fuchs’ style 20-inch alloy wheels.

The inside styling touches summon memories of the original 911 with thing like green labeling on the instruments and white pointer needles and silver caps, as well as a particular fabric pattern that bring up memories of the ‘Pepita’ tartan design from the 1960s on the center section of the leather trmmed sport seats.
