Renault Kwid concept to be revealed

The Renault Kwid concept is yet another appearance of the baby SUV model, a new mini high-rider which is expected to debut at the Dehli auto show. The French brand describes the model as being ‘robust yet joyful’ while ate the same time highlighting the company commitment to new markets as well as their ability to produce appealing products for the compact car segment.
Meant to appeal to a younger set of buyers in developing markets, the model was co-designed by Renault’s Indian arm and features a rather chunky look with short overhangs and big wheels and tyres so as to give the model the overall impression of ‘bouncing’.
We don’t know yet many details about the concept but it is thought that it is ready for electrification and comes already with a charge plug behind the Renault badge.
The concept is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo four-cylinder coupled with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is thought to be the same powertrain that will be featured in the new-generation Clio, and it will be two-wheel-drive as well.
The model is a five-seater but the seats are positioned in a rather strange 1+2+2 layout in which the driver is places front and centre of the model. Renault says that this position will allow the car to be driven in both left- and right-hand-drive markets. It has to be said that this is an interesting way of getting aroung the engineering problems and the extra costs involved in building a car that will work with both standards.
As far as the cockpit is concerned, it is said to be ‘inspired by a bird’s nest’ featuring elastomer webbed seats, as well as clever climate controls situated on the back of the driver’s seat which allow for those in the rear to change their settings.
Interestingly enough the concept also features a ‘Flying Companion’ – an actual drone that ejects from the roof of the car and can fly above to offer a better idea of what traffic is like and detecting any potential obstacles ahead.
