Skoda VisionC concept has been revealed
The upcoming Geneva motor show will play host to the new Skoda VisionC concept which could preview a possible coupe-styled five-door liftback.
The now Volkswagen-owned Czech car maker has revealed its new VisionC concept ahead of the show and described its styling as the next step in the development of the Skoda design language.
This is expected to be Skoda’s first foray into a truly style-focused model. It seems that the company is planning to offer this type of car to buyers in the coming years because it has mentioned on more than one occasion that it plans to renew and expand the model range.
According to the statement, the design language is becoming more expressive, dynamic and emotional while underpinning the dawn of the brand. At the same time this concept demonstrates the possibilities in innovative and emotional chassis design.
There are various reports that the car will be built starting with 2016 alongside the next-gen Octavia on which they say the concept is based. The concept is however built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB modular underpinnings, even though the precise size of this car isn’t yet known, but it is thought to measure about 4700mm long and 1829mm wide.
At first glance, you might be inclined to mistake the car for one of Audi’s offerings – due to its sharp and precise lines, the bold headlights and a prominent grille and bumper treatment, triangulated tail-lights as well as a swooping roof. To be honest even the wheels look a bit like they’ve been borrowed from Audi’s brand catalogue.
There are no interior images of the concept however, the company does claim it provides plenty of room for four people as well as their luggage.
What we do know is that under the bonnet we’ll find Skoda’s latest generation 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable of running on either petrol or compressed natural gas.
