The 2013 Ford Fiesta stats
Just a few hours after photos of the updated Ford Fiesta model for 2013 appeared on the web, the car was officially revealed. The 2013 Ford Fiesta will be making its public debut at a Ford organized event in Amsterdam, the “Go Further” event on the 6th of September where the new Ford Mondeo as well as a couple other models and technologies will be revealed.
The full range of 2013 Ford Fiesta models will be shown at the 2012 Paris motor show later in September.
The 2013 model will feature several new technologies, including the award winning 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine – which we have talked about several times on this blog – the SYNC voice-activated connectivity system, Active City Stop low-speed automatic braking and the MyKey programmable safety system.
The 1.0-litre engine will come in two versions, one with 74kW and 170Nm and the other with 88-92kW and up to 200Nm when supercharged. According to Ford, the new three-cylinder EcoBoost Fiestas should deliver class-leading fuel economy.
The SYNC technology will allow Fiesta owners to connect their smartphones to the car’s audio system via Bluetooth or USB in order to make voice commands as well as receive and make calls or listen to music from their phone. The SYNC tech also coems with an Emergency Assistance function which will automatically call emergency services operators in the event of the car being involved in a crash.
The MyKey system is a very intelligent idea meant to enforce safer driving from younger drivers, meaning that a particular set of keys can be set to only allow the car to reach a set maximum speed and go for only a certain number of miles.
Design-wise, the new Fiesta will feature a new hexagonal chrome grille alongside a new face, a reshaped bonnet and headlights as well as LED daytime running lights.
The tail-lights will also feature some slightly revised lenses while the interior only sees moderate upgrades to new materials and plastics as well as slight ergonomic improvements.
