Cork Car Hire

Cork is the second largest city in Ireland and one that is best seen with the help of our Cork car hire services. Similarly to the capital Dublin, Cork saw some serious development during the 17th century, a period when the city expanded thanks to its importance as a butter provider for the ships that sailed the North Atlantic.

As opposed to the capital however, Cork has only relatively recently seen new growth, mostly during the second half of the 20th century. This late modern development has had a very profound effect on the city influencing everything related to it, starting from its looks to what it now offers its inhabitants and tourists.

When you fly into the country and head for Cork you will most probably land at Cork Airport, the third largest airport in the country. It is located a mere eight kilometers from the city center and connected to it via the N27 Kinsale Road. There are bus routes, taxis as well as express shuttle services which connect the airport to the city. Another possibility would be to land at Shannon Airport which is situated about two and a half hours away by car from Cork. Whichever airport you land at your best choice for transportation would be to hire a car from our Cork offices.

Once you reach the city, you will notice that the center of the city is rather small and most visitors will hang around the city center as far as housing and eating and drinking goes. If you hire a car in Cork you will benefit from it especially on Friday and Saturday nights when the taxis are insufficient to satisfy demand.

Great attractions of Cork include Shandon Church whose tower and bells are symbols of the city; Cork City Gaol is worth a visit due to the great views it offers of the west of the city. On the other hand if you want to experience the atmosphere of the city in a more personal way you could schedule your trip to coincide with one of the many festivals the city hosts throughout the year like the Midsummer Festival which lasts for a months between the middle of June till the middle of July or on the other hand if poetry and theater isn’t your thing the city also hosts a Jazz Festival, one of the largest in Europe in fact during the last weekend of October.
