The city is divided into two by the river Daugava with the “old town” being situated on the east side of the river. The Old Town features the Triangula Bastion which is a modern building which features an excavated fragment of Riga’s historical fortification wall system. St. Peter’s Church dates back to 1209 and it is the city’s oldest church which despite it’s age has an elevator to its tower which offers some great views over the city.
St. John’s church is a considerably smaller and less spectacular church which features a Renaissance period altar while the ceiling is from the Gothic period.
Riga Cathedral and its Square are yet another sight to visit as it is one of the city’s symbols and features a spectacular 6768-pipe organ.
