Maastricht claims to be the oldest city in the Netherlands and it’s a great place to visit, especially if you employ our Maastricht car hire services. It is a city with magnificent buildings and culture with a vibrant and multicultural atmosphere.

The city’s historical old center makes Maastricht a very popular tourist destination and its University means that the city is constantly inhabited by a large number of students, foreign and otherwise.

If you fly into the city you will land at Maastricht Airport and you can have our Maastricht car rental services have the car ready for you at the airport as soon as you land. The trouble with this is the fact that the city center is pedestrian-only and parking is really hard to find and expensive to boot so ideally you would park your car on the outside of town and then use the local public transport to get to where you are going within the city. On the other hand if you use Maastricht as a headquarters for road trips in the surrounding area then you will be much better served by a car.

Maastricht offers not one but two town squares at its center. The Vrijthof features the rather massive St. Servaas Church as well as St. Jan’s Cathedral and The Markt which sports the Town Hall and the Wednesday and Friday markets. The first square is known to regularly host many large festivals like the autumn and winter festivals but there is also a Carnaval before Lent which is an amazing sight to be seen.

From amongst the many museums that Maastricht has to offer, one that you have to check out is the Bonnefantenmuseum. This is a museum that exhibits works from the Old Masters as well as contemporary art. The contemporary art collection features works from many international artists.

Some of the main tourist attractions to the city besides the city center and the museums are the Saint Pietersberg caves – this is a marlstone mine which used to be used as a shelter during sieges and bombings – and the Kazematten – a network of bunkers.
