The German carmaker has recently revealed their all-new V-Class people-mover which will be replacing the Valente and Viano in Mercedes-Benz’s line-up.

The new model is described to be more passenger-focused with the carmaker claiming that the new model sets new benchmarks for the segment in terms of design, appearance, comfort, versatility, efficiency and safety; that’s a lot of benchmarks.

According to the chairman of the board of management for Daimler and head of Mercedes-Benz car division – the new V-Class means to expand the company’s premium automobile range with a sedan for up to eight people. He continued saying that functionality is crucial for an MPV and that in this case style and comfort are the icing on the cake.

The new model will be sold with a 2.1-litre turbo diesel engine in three power output levels – 100kW, 120kW and 140kW – the latter of which is capable of producing 440Nm – with an overboost getting up to 480Nm – of torque.

The standard version of the new V-Class will feature a six-speed manual tranmission but a seven-speed automatic will be optional on some versions. The company has also said that fuel consumption is also reduced by 28 percent compared to its predecessor, but official figures haven’t been released yet.

The model comes with a bunch of high-tech equipment such as a cross-wind assistance system and an interior microfon capable of transmiting the conversation from the front seats to the rear ones. Other interior trinkets will include a new touchscreen infotainment system featuring an upgraded Comand media interface.

The current range of vans starts at $54,490 plus on-road costs for the Valente model, while the more luxury focused Viano will start at $78,635 plus costs, the Vito commercial van range will start from $38,990.
