Italians love cars, they love the speed of driving and the freedom of rolling swiftly along their jet-black, soft highways. One of the most prestigious names in the high-class car manufacturing industry is Maserati. Established in Bologna in 1914, the company’s aim has always been that of producing a luxury car that combines sports features with elegance to make an ultra-luxury automobile.
Today, the company’s headquarters are located in Modena. Originally, Maserati was owned by the Fiat giant manufacturer and associated with the equally fast and prestigious Ferrari. Now, the brand is included in the same group as Alfa Romeo, but also Abarth.
The most prestigious models of Maserati are Ghibli, Quattroporte and Gran Turismo. The starting price of the Maserati Ghibli, the most affordable model, is around 70.000 dollars. It takes its name from the African desert wind and it runs just as smooth and fast. Both the exterior and the interior of the car follow the same pattern of smooth, curved lines and elegant materials. The technical specifications describe a 3.0-liter twin turbo engine V6 with a power of 345-hp. The engine has an 8-speed automatic.
The Quattroporte model – as predicted by its name, which means “four doors” in Italian – gives the promise of a luxury, sports sedan with just a touch of dramatics. The demand for this car, as well as the record sales of 2014 (3000 segments) has increased production.
Owning a Maserati can be one of those little (or, OK, grand) pleasures you treat yourself with. But if you don’t own one, that doesn’t mean you can’t drive one. There is always the option of renting a Maserati in Cyprus for instance.
