New clues surface about the rumored Lexus baby SUV

The picture of the rumored Lexus baby SUV has been completed a little bit more with the revelation that Toyota has filed trademark applications for the names of NX200t and NX300h in the US and Canada.

The trademark applications were filed on the 15th of October “for use in association with automobiles and structural parts thereof”.

Even though the applications aren’t specifically attributed to Lexus, the NX in the nomenclature definitely aligns them with the SUV naming structure used by the Japanese luxury brand, which would also slot them below the mid-sized RX and the larger LX models.

The NX200t title will most likely be applied to an entry-level model powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, while the NX300h with be the hybrid model, teaming an electric motor with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol powerplant.

We have to mention that Lexus have yet to confirm the existence of a program to built a small SUV to rival the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1, despite this though, several high-ranking company executives have admitted that a new such model is quite inevitable.

Actually the president of Lexus International said that a small SUV capable of meeting stricter CO2 emissions regulations is almost ‘necessary’ for the future. Actually there are quite a lot of distributors around the world requesting that Lexus launch a vehicle to fit into that slot.
