New Toyota Yaris sedan revealed

2013-Toyota-Yaris-Sedan

The third-generation Toyota Yaris sedan has been revealed at the 2013 Bangkok Motor Show. The new Yaris has been dubbed as the Vios in some markets, and it appears more than two years after the late-2010 unveiling of the third-gen Yaris hatch.

The new Yaris sedan will be going on sale in its domestic Thai market in may, just before its rollout in more than eighty countries around the world starting with the second half of 2013. In most of those markets currently the second-gen Yaris sedan is being sold alongside the third-gen hatch variants.

The new generation of the Yaris sedan will benefit from stronger styling, morphing the curves of the previous model into sharper angles and tighter lines.

The front-end is in tune with the design direction laid down by the new-generation Camry, Corolla and RAV4, featuring rectangular headlights integrated into a chrome grille and a large trepezoidal cut-out which makes up the bumper and lower air intake.

The new doors also feature more expressive character lines alongside large, angular rear tail-lights that wrap around the corners and are then joined across the boot by a narrow chrome strip.

It only makes sense that the interior would get a dramatic overhaul as well, the instrument cluster being relocated from the centre of the dashboard to the more conventional position located behind the redesigned three-spoke steering wheel.

The top of the now centre console features a new audio system while the climate controls are placed lower down, right above the gearstick.

The new model is 4410mm long, 1700mm wide and 1475mm high which means that the new Yaris sedan will be longer, wider and taller than the current generation, with Toyota promising greater cargo capacity and increased rear-seat comfort as a result.

On the other hand, the new Yaris sedan will carry over the existing 80kW/141Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
