Celebrating 20 years with Mercedes SLK

This April, the German car manufacturer salutes the world as we are all celebrating 20 years with Mercedes SLK. Doesn’t time pass by so fast? But let’s not get melancholy and celebrate the SLK in our own way too.

What is the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class? It is a luxury muscle car, a compact model produced by the manufacturer Daimler-Benz, first launched in the year 1996 with the R170 model. In fact, the first sighting of the first SLK happened at the 1994 Paris Motor Show and the European market would welcome this beauty on four wheels one year after its official inauguration, in 1997.

Wanna know more about the Mercedes-Benz SLK? So far, three generations of the model have been launched: the initial R170, R171 (2004) and R172 (inaugurated in 2011).

Did you know SLK is actually an acronym? The abreviation of the name also encompasses the German creed when designing and projecting this car: S – sportlich, sporty, L – leicht, light and K – kurtz, or short.

Along the years, Mercedes has tried to keep up with the trends without abdicating from the initial creed; and we do believe they have succeeded so far!

What can the SLK do? Short answer: a lot! The engine of this car has always been innovative and strong.

The most recent SLK300 2.0-liter turbo-4 241 hp 2.0-liter turbo 4 can get to 60 mph in less than a minute. This is a sensitive car that almost flies from under your feet (or seat).

The SLK is also centered on accessibility and entertainment. The latest gadgets are meant to offer a high tech (as well as high class) drive for both driver and passengers. The SLK is fitted with air con, Bluetooth streaming, navigation, Wi-Fi, satellite radio and more.

If you can’t afford to buy one just yet, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy its experience. You can rent a car around the world.
