Dubai Paramedics and the wheels of fire

You may well ask yourselves: what kind of title is this, Dubai Paramedics and the wheels of fire? We are soon going to elucidate this mystery.

Ok, so we have got used to seeing luxury cars chasing villains down the endless highways. Far-fetched a few decades ago, the notion of high class sports cars for the Police is a reality today. Still, when we think of ambulances, visual representations tune down to more realistic images of white vans with medical signs and sirens fitted on the hood.

But do you imagine a place where paramedics speed madly in Ford Mustangs or Lotus Evoras to save a life? Where, such a place actually does exist: it is called Dubai! Very surprised? Perhaps you shouldn’t be, bearing in mind that UAE cops already drive Aston Martin, Lamborghinis and even the fastest car on earth: the Bugatti Veyron. Dubai cars equal speed and elegance.

The fact is that this October, at the Gitex Technology Week gathering in Dubai, people witnessed the unveiling of the “First Responder” Evora. The two-seater car is stuffed with all the first-aid gadgets and medicines contained in a large ambulance van, as well as being equipped with a mobile data terminal which facilitates real-time communication with the local hospital and information about the patient. The only downside is that the car cannot actually carry a patient in critical state.

The present response time of an Ambulance in Dubai is below 10 minutes, but apparently the officials want to cut that down to half the time. This can definitely be made possible by the top speed of 160 mph of the Evora.

Apparently, all kinds of emergencies can be covered, from defibrillations to concussions. The cars will be first launched in tourist points like Jumeirah Beach Residences and Burj Khalifa. Before letting them “loose” on the streets, paramedics will get special training driving such fiery sports cars.
